The internet is alive and always moving.
This is the living internet. I believe that effective design in this space is about taking the essence of the web - hyperlinks, people, interactivity - and creating something that is pure and natural and at home in that ecosystem.
I'm an interaction designer and software developer living in the Hague. I'm currently employed by Q42 where I'm working on a product called quplo. My job title is interaction engineer and I'm involved in everything from visual design, interaction design and server-side programming to concept development, acquisition and company strategy.
My philosophy, design laterally, means seeing through the visual design and into the guts of a web page: the html, css, javascript and other technologies that allow a system to talk to a person. Reading the real behaviour of the Web and learning about who's using it is how the most useful, effective design happens.
